I have returned… omg the jet lag is REAL… sigh… such an interesting experience… I have been to Wimbledon twice before and both times were for a couple of matches on Centre Court and Number One Court… this experience was WILD… if you haven’t queued you don’t know what it is like to watch people suffer and call it fun… You stand there… maybe talking to someone, or maybe the people around you are too self absorbed to talk to you… I am going with the latter… I stood for four days in a row on or about 10 hours prior to getting into the venue… seriously, it is insane… I saw some genuine people and people having fun… but, it was tedium… but there I stood in the field awaiting my prince who never fucking came… oh well… it was an experience… NOT recommended… in case you were wondering…
Anyway… this has not been the shitshow that RG was; however, we do have some moments and I am questioning if my good luck on these trips is because I am there, or because I know tennis players so well… I am going with the former, because sheesh… Let’s do the highlights of the seeds and who fell when…

Men’s Draw
Quinn took down #14 Darderi of Italy, not too bad of a start eh? Then #11 Ruud of Norway fell to Hurkacz… Zheng took down #26 Norrie of Great Brittain… I saw Zheng play, he has some very acute skills with that racket and very patient… #12 Rublev ousted by fellow Russian Safiullin who I also watched qualify… very good on the grass… Majchrzak ousts #30 Tabilo of Chile… a good surface for the Pole, not so much for the Chilean Sea Bass… Bergs over #27 Umbert of France… should have seen that one coming, Bergs beat him just a couple days prior to win a tournament… so… Virtanen takes out #4 Shelton of the USA… whoopsie… I did listen to this match as I was walking back to my flat… it sounded a bit sad and a missed opportunity in the five set match… #29 Etcheverry of Argentina is out to Sonego… #18 Cerundolo also of Argentina is ousted by Munar… #32 Arnaldi of Italy isn’t enough for a big serving Halys… not a good day for these boys…
Women’s Draw
Tjen takes out #22 Fernandez of Canada… #20 Chwalinska of Poland is taken down by Sawangkaew… the Pole was the runner up to Andreeva at the French Open this year… she didn’t know how to play on grass, yet… Bouzas Maneiro over #27 Potopova of Austria… Sonmez over #28 Li from America… Sonmez is pretty talented on all surfaces… #8 Svitolina didn’t make it past the first round with a loss to fellow Ukrainian Snigur… Another veteran #31 Vekic of Croatia is taken out by Krueger who qualified for the tournament… nice win… #24 Tauson of Denmark isn’t enough for Sakkari a bit of a surprise win for her… and that is the size of Round ONE…

#31 Buse of Poland is taken out by Brooksby… that seems reasonable… Struff over #28 Nakashima of the USA… Fucsovics over #16 Tien of the United States… interesting… I see a trend… maybe… Dimitrov gets a win over #15 Mensik of Czechia… Didn’t see that one coming… but, good for Dimitrov… he had a terrible loss to Sinner last year with an on court injury… so… yay him… Berrettini over #20 Fils of France… not a shock, Fils has been on injury patrol…

The seeds are now clashing… for the most part… #17 Tiafoe of the USA is taken out by Bublik… he is a bit crazy in the best way… Cobolli over #19 Khachanov of Russia… #25 Rinderknech of France is taken down by Djokovic… eh… no surprise… Safiullin, who took down Rublev also ousts #24 Fonseca of Brazil… Struff over #8 Medvedev of Russia… I don’t get it… it would seem that Medvedev’s game would really be suited for grass… but, he cannot seem to figure out the surface… Hurkacz over #21 Paul of the United States… Mochizuki, a qualifier, takes down #23 Jodar of Spain…
Women’s Draw
#18 Alexandrova of Russia is knocked out by Jovic… that is a fun result, Alexandrova is a hard hitter and Jovic has a lot of skills around the court… good win for her… Bencic over #19 Kalinskaya of Russia… Kostyuk takes down the American #23 Navarro, being a billionaire didn’t help you… yet again… #3 Swiatek is ousted by Eala… eek… well, kind of… that one was easier to read… Swiatek isn’t comfortable on the grass and even though she was the defending champion, it seemed a bit of a fluke and Eala has beat her before… so… not a shocker… Keys over fellow American and runner up in 2025, #6 Anisimova… #17 Cirstea of Romania wasn’t enough for Noskova… and the big upset of this round is #2 Rybakina who is beaten by Mertens… I don’t think Mertens has beat Rybakina before… quite the win! Congrats…

Osaka starts us off with a BIG win over #1 Sabalenka… DID NOT see that one coming… especially when Osaka retired in the match against Muchova just last week… humph… Pegula ousts #16 Jovic of the USA… Gauff over #11 Bencic of Switzerland… nice win, especially on grass for Gauff… she has it in her… still not the most comfortable surface… let’s see if she can get passed the next round… unsure at the moment… #29 Eala of the Philippines is done thanks to Paolini… Noskova takes down #26 Keys of America… and Mertens over #21 Bouzkova of Czechia… not a bad way to round things out… and now we have the quarterfinals…
